Legends Live Here is a community-driven docuseries that honors Austin’s unsung musical icons—artists whose influence shaped the city's sound but whose stories are rarely told. Created and executive produced by Austin-based artist Jess Ross, the series combines intimate interviews and live studio performances to celebrate Austin's living legends.
Each episode serves as a cultural tribute and living archive, preserving legacy, bridging generations, and uplifting the roots of Austin’s music scene for both residents and visitors.

FILMING IN JANUARY 2026...
"My first introduction to Mac Mcintosh was sometime early last year at C-Boy’s, after I had sat in with Sam and the SMS Band. He came right up to me and said, “You got it. You be true to the music and the music will be true to you.” He said it repeatedly and with such conviction, it scared me a little… in the best way possible.
Unbeknownst to anyone, those words rang in my chest at a time when I was only daydreaming about returning to music. It moved me so much I went home that night and journaled about it. Mac saw me—and my heart—and wasted no time telling me as much. In a world full of performative masks, ruthless competition, and emotional puddles, I really appreciated his authentic transparency. I never forgot it.
Fast forward to early 2025 and the start of pre-development for Legends Live Here—I always knew I wanted Mac to be one of the three legends in the series, but I still wanted to get a temperature check to see if he’d be interested in being featured. He didn’t hesitate for one second before signing on. I remember assuring him I wouldn’t pressure him to do anything he didn’t want to do or feel comfortable doing on film, and he replied,
“I don’t have to do anything but be Black and DIE.”
I cackled myself to tears.
This week, I touched base with him at his residency at Half Step to see if he was still interested, had any questions or concerns, and if we could solidify some filming dates on the calendar. He’s unfortunately had significant storm damage to his apartment, and I wanted to make sure he had ample time to get things sorted before we started filming. He looked at me very plainly, without missing a beat, and proclaimed, “I said yes and I meant it. Schedule the dates.”
Ladies and gentlepeople, I am beyond honored to announce Mac McTosh as the first legend we will be filming for the Legends Live Here series.
